Armenia’s FM Expresses Optimism Over Near-Future Normalization with Turkey

(MENAFN) Armenia’s top diplomat has expressed confidence that relations with Türkiye could be fully normalized in the near future, pointing to ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two sides.

According to reports, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told lawmakers during a joint parliamentary committee session on Monday that dialogue between Yerevan and Ankara has remained active and continuous.

He highlighted that multiple meetings have already taken place within the framework of the bilateral process, including discussions involving a working group focused on reopening the Kars–Gyumri railway link.

“My expectation and belief is that in the very near future, at some stage, we will have tangible progress in terms of the full normalization of our relations with Türkiye,” Mirzoyan said.

“I want to express confidence that in the near future we will, in fact, have full normalization,” he added.

The foreign minister also noted that direct trade between the two countries already exists in a customs sense, although geographically it still relies on transit through third countries.

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Türkiye was among the first states to recognize Armenia’s independence on Sept. 21, 1991.
