Armenia’s PM Hosts Bulgarian President in Yerevan
(MENAFN) Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan cemented a new strategic partnership with Bulgaria on Sunday, signing a joint declaration with Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova in Yerevan as world leaders converged on the Armenian capital ahead of the 8th European Political Community summit.
According to the Armenian prime minister's office, Pashinyan welcomed Iotova and her accompanying delegation, extending personal congratulations to the newly inaugurated Bulgarian president and wishing her a successful term in office.
During the talks, Pashinyan highlighted the untapped potential of Armenia-Bulgaria bilateral relations and acknowledged Sofia's consistent backing of Yerevan within European Union frameworks. Iotova, in turn, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and for Armenia's role as summit host, noting that the European Political Community has produced concrete outcomes since its founding. She also extended congratulations to Pashinyan ahead of the forthcoming EU-Armenia summit.
In a series of separate high-level meetings on the sidelines, Pashinyan also sat down with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene, his office confirmed.
In discussions with Carney, the two leaders reviewed what were described as "friendly" bilateral relations and addressed issues of shared concern. Carney conveyed Canada's gratitude to Armenia for assistance rendered to Canadian nationals in connection with the conflict involving Iran, touched on regional monitoring efforts conducted alongside the EU, and signaled Ottawa's readiness to support Yerevan in facilitating upcoming elections.
Pashinyan's exchange with Ruginiene centered on advancing bilateral cooperation across democratic reform and economic integration, with particular emphasis on deepening Armenia's relationship with the 27-member EU bloc. Ruginiene lauded Armenia's democratic progress, noting it lays the groundwork for stronger bilateral engagement between the two nations.
