Turkey, Armenia Push to Reopen Kars-Gyumri Railway

(MENAFN) Türkiye and Armenia have both highlighted the importance of reopening the Kars-Gyumri railway without delay, viewing it as a key step toward improving regional transport connectivity and cooperation, according to reports following a recent joint meeting.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that the Türkiye-Armenia Joint Working Group on the rehabilitation and activation of the railway held discussions on April 28 in Kars, a province in eastern Türkiye. The talks focused on plans to restore and operationalize the long-inactive rail line.

The meeting was conducted as part of ongoing efforts linked to the broader normalization process between the two neighboring countries, as previously agreed.

Both sides reportedly stressed that bringing the railway back into service as soon as possible would play an important role in strengthening transportation links across the region and supporting wider economic and logistical integration.
